Daventry Rugby Football Club Using Compelling Pub Furniture Designs To Boost Club Membership

Daventry Rugby Football Club is a club actively focussed on achieving growth by proactively engaging with its members face to face or online to find ways of best meeting their needs for a successful Rugby Football Club.

Part of the move to achieve greater levels of face to face engagement with members, was the need to be conscious of the demographic profile of the current audience. This was seen to be predominantly male beer drinkers while the growth aspiration was to expand this audience by also attracting wives, girlfriends and other female visitors.

Key to the expansion strategy was the recognition that the interior of the existing club house would need to be significantly improved to be attractive to all users of the facilities.

Vice Chairman and Coaching Co-ordinator of Daventry RFC, Rosco (Paul Russell) approached Oxfordshire based contract furniture providers, Pub Stuff Ltd and asked Director, Sally Huband to come in and learn more about the Club’s needs. “What we were looking for initially from Sally was a design that maintained the traditional appeal of a Rugby Club and at the same time moved us closer to being more visually inclusive to our wider target audience,” explained Rosco.

“We really needed her expert design eye to help us understand the correct combination of colours, fabrics, textures and woods. In honesty all we knew was that we needed something modern but not simply beige!” laughed Rosco. “Today’s desire for mixing and matching can work very well but only if you get it completely correct and have the right eye for it.”

“Sally completely nailed it for us,” said Rosco. “She listened to us to make sure that she correctly understood our needs and the type of usage we envisaged within the Club. The resulting design, together with a set of samples, demonstrated an approach that met every possible use we would have for the club house. The design completely exceeded our expectations.

A picture speaks a thousand words and the 3D design she produced was easy to incorporate into subsequent internal presentations to other stakeholders involved in the decision making process.

It made things so much easier to communicate because everyone can immediately visualise the point you are making through the structure of the 3D images provided. Being able to zoom in and out of zones and move around within the design was brilliant for what we needed.

It was clear to us that going through this type of design process should be a no brainer for Rugby Clubs like ours. Rather than bring in costly designers who may charge for initial meetings and reports before any design is agreed or furniture arrives, this is such a cost effective alternative that meets all requirements in a highly effective way.”
