Pub Stuff furniture grant puts a spring back in the step of Waterlooville Community Centre

The Springwood Centre is a busy Community Centre, Café and venue in the heart of Waterlooville, outside Portsmouth, Hampshire serving numerous local community groups.

Situated in an area for regeneration in the Stakes area of Waterlooville, the centre is growing and importantly thriving under the weight of local demand. Groups served are diverse and range from elderly local residents enjoying their lunch time meals there, disabled groups meeting for a coffee right through to the evening Youth Café which provides a safe, hip and supportive environment for local youth users who have no other local venues available to them.
In the mornings Mums and Toddlers use the centre for pre-school groups and during the week a vibrant and growing dance group fill the hall with music and laughter.

The rate of growth and the volume and diversity of usage of the facilities of the Springwood Centre led Centre Manager Lyn Unsworth to make an application to leading UK contract furniture suppliers Pub Stuff Ltd and their new Community Stuff grant scheme.
“We set up Community Stuff to support community focussed organisations with quality, durable and attractive contract furniture to meet their needs when creating meeting points for community support projects,” said Pub Stuff Director, Sally Huband.

Lyn described how the original layout of the facilities was a wide corridor furnished with used soft office chairs, hard wooden chairs and round wooden coffee tables. “My aim was to find a way to slowly replace them as they wore out; it just wasn’t a terribly inviting space at all.

Creating a cosy feel in the Cafe with Pub Stuff's furniture: Faux leather Tub Chairs and Chunky Coffee Tables.

When we found out that we’d been successful in applying for the furniture grant from Pub Stuff Ltd, we were delighted. Our four new leather tub chairs and matching table have been a lovely addition to the centre creating a cosy feel and our teens have declared them to be the best thing in the world! It’s inspired me to spice things up and put pictures up on the wall to make things even more cosy.”
